New David Vlog! And My Rxn

Hello everyone! It's Rinnie here. Okay, I know I'm kind of copying David haha, but I'm so thrilled he posted a new vlog!!! Really missed them. So I feel like posting my reaction here (more like rambling). But take a look at the vlog first if you haven't had the chance yet:

It's refreshing to know that there are still people who do not crave the showbiz spotlight; I love how he mentioned that going back to LA recently scared him haha! I'm so glad that he finally knows what he wants and has a direction, which recently happened to me too. I really can't say how happy I am that he's being firm and determined about where he wants to take his music, an attitude I truly admire and hope I can have regarding my own decisions in life. I am sure the projects, upon completion, will be the most genuine and "David" products, not something corrupted by media and "business". So glad he's doing what he wants! To be honest, I don't really care what he does, because I know he will make great decisions. One day people will appreciate what they are missing out on! I can't wait for a chance to see him perform live in the future, since I haven't had the opportunity yet. Anyways, I really appreciate him making vlogs despite not liking to (just shows how much he appreciates us fans!)...and also reading our comments and finding out that we would like his hair to be longer, but hey David, no pressure ;)

Ciao! ~Rinnie

David Archuleta: Called to Serve (video)

Hello everyone! It's been a while. I've been very busy, but after watching this special done by KSL, I decided to procrastinate on my college life a little and write down this little blurb.

I was one of those people feeling conflicted when Mr. David Archuleta announced his decision to embark on a 2-year LDS mission. I was used to living on news, music, and other special snippets from my favorite singer and celebrity of all time and yet, I know how much he had always wanted to go on a mission and how much it would mean to him. All I could do was, like most other fans, show mental support, hope that this experience will be rewarding to him, and anticipate the arrival of #DA2014 (his return). So imagine my fangirling when he officially announced his return on March 24, 2014 (thank goodness I was on spring break!).

I've been hearing that he was going to talk about his mission in a special done by KSL that will be aired today, but I really didn't know what to expect. Will I understand where he's coming from? Will I get what this experience meant to him? Or will I be left confused because I'm a Buddhist?

However, all I can say after watching this is that this was an incredibly brave and inspirational decision. 2 years went by so fast! Even though I am not religious in any way and, to be honest, am one of those people who avoids LDS missionaries upon seeing them on campus, it's incredible to see the lives that can be changed and how a missionary's life can be influenced by a mission. The compassion and care people have for one another is universal, no matter how it is shown. So is the way people feel upon receiving that compassion, care, and support from others. I think now, I do understand partly why missionaries of any religion do what they do and how the people who were converted must have felt knowing there are people out there who care.

I guess this is kind of an epiphany haha! That video really touched me and inspired me to become braver. I, like him, am a person who cannot talk very well; I don't always know what to say or how to articulate what I want to say, so sometimes I just end up saying nothing at all. But others can feel your sincerity, and that's what I will aim for in addition to trying to improve my talking skills.

Hope to hear new music soon, after plenty of well-deserved R&R with his family and friends of course xD

Thanks for reading!!

p.s. I think all missionaries are extremely brave and are taking huge risk, it's just that most aren't famous so we don't really hear their stories. Let's give them all a round of applause!! *claps*

David Archuleta Performs in Santiago, Chile!

Uh…Elder Archuleta right now, since he’s still on his mission for the Mormon Church. Recently, between December 10th and 14th I think (actually, likely throughout the whole month of December), he was invited to perform at multiple shows at the local church for their annual Christmas Devotional. Looks like he also performed elsewhere for different events! This has been an incredibly busy quarter for me and, to be honest, I have not logged on to twitter or fan sites in some time, so sorry about any misinformation, haha! Ah, life of a college junior. Anyways, here are some of the YouTube videos of Elder Archuleta’s performances that reminded me of how it felt to fangirl! Enjoy!

First, a video of him rehearsing “Oh ven, oh ven Emmanuel

Oh ven, oh ven Emmanuel” 12/10

Noche Divina” (Spanish version of O Holy Night)

Los pastores a belén” on 12/14

The Prayer” with Rebecca Lopez 12/14

María sabías que” (Spanish version of Mary Did You Know)

El tamborilero” (Spanish version of “Little Drummer Boy”)

"What Child is This" (Spanish version) with Luis Layseca

"Mi burrito sabanero" with Luis Layseca

"His Hands" (Spanish version)

P.S. Can't believe he'll be back in just a few months! Feel free to point out any mistakes and I will edit/add things :)

Happy Holidays!

David Archuleta's "No Matter How Far" new album 3/26!

Hello everyone! Sorry about the seeming lateness of this post, but I have been very busy with classes this quarter! Let's cut to the chase.

David Archuleta, Archie, Elder Archuleta, that guy from American Idol season 7, however you know him, has a brand new album of original songs that came out on March 26, 2013!! Yes, he is still on a mission, but being the wonderful person that he is, he has planned more surprises than us fans can ever hope for before his departure. When Kari, his manager, announced this through his official twitter on January 31st, I was having a quick lunch and hurrying off to prepare for a presentation for English class when I received the tweet. Let me tell you, it was very difficult to hold in the spazzing and my nervousness regarding the presentation until class was over. According to David's official website, the album will include songs previously unreleased (officially in the U.S. I think) and NEW RECORDED MATERIAL!!! *SPAZZZZ* ASKJKDFJHEGK;LJFGH.

Anyways, the single off the new album is "Don't Run Away", which became available on iTunes and Amazon on February 12. You can listen to the whole song on the SoundCloud player below:

Tracklist:

1. Nothing Else Better To Do
2. Everything And More
3. Don’t Run Away
4. Tell Me
5. Love Don’t Hate
6. Wait
7. Heart Falls Out (only song new to me*)
8. Notice Me
9. I’ll Never Go
10. Forevermore

*track 1 was a Japanese bonus track for The Other Side of Down (2010).
*tracks 2, 5, 6, 8 were previously released in The Other Side of Down: Asian Tour Edition.
*track 3 was leaked around November 2012 and is the current single.
*tracks 4, 9, 10 are covers of OPM songs previously released in Forevermore and Forevermore: Expanded Edition in the Philippines.

David Archuleta's 22nd birthday &...9 months!

Edited by me, original photo credit to naree
HAPPY 22ND BIRTHDAY TO THE ONE AND ONLY DAVID ARCHULETA! Wow! It doesn't seem that long ago when I first saw him on American Idol...only 17 years old then! It's amazing to witness how much he has accomplished since then: 5 studio albums (not including the Asian Tour Edition of The Other Side of Down), 1 live album with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, 6 tours, a memoir, a leading role on a Filipino soap opera, and many more!
This morning, my mom, upon seeing the nice weather, said to me "you wanted to go to the Thai food place right? We can walk over today for lunch!" and I replied "okay!" then, realizing how perfect this is, I said "oh yeah, it's David's birthday!!" My mom goes on to say "should we celebrate by ordering more dishes? Are you paying?" haha! Here's to hoping he has a great day, year, and many more joyful birthdays to come!

p.s. Today also marks 9 months since David left on his mission. 15 months to go!

1 year ago...David Archuleta's My Kind of Christmas Tour kicked off!

Hello everyone! Since today marks 1 year after the first show of the My Kind of Christmas Tour, I decided to write a post about my experience, an experience of this tour from a fan who, very sadly, could not make a show.

*flashes back to 1 year ago*

I live in Seattle, and did not make the "Idol" tour show in Tacoma or the David/Demi tour show in Seattle because I was out of the country both times (Philippines and Taiwan respectively, summer vacation!). Determined to make a show, I got my hopes up that he might come here, since he hasn't been here in so long. When the tour dates came out, I was crushed. The closest shows from me were in Idaho, and the cities were 12-hour drives away, trips that I could not afford. A friend of mine goes to college in L.A. and lives less than 20 minutes away from the Anaheim venue and reasonably close to the L.A. venue, but I also could not afford to fly down and visit her to go to the shows together. Maybe I had a feeling that this would be his last tour in a long time, I don't know, but having waited almost 4 years to attend a David concert was just getting a little too long. It especially hurt to hear people talking about this being their 10th David concert, or complaining that they couldn't make a show this time, having already seem him more than twice.

However, many amazing ninja fans delivered! On the night of each show, I eagerly scrolled through my twitter feed for live updates of the show, for funny occurrences and for songs sung during VIP. The next morning, I would comb YouTube for the best quality video I could find of each performance. Eventually I would have favorites (such as This Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Fa La La La La, Climb Every Mountain) and focus on watching those performances from all the different shows.

I remember on the night of the Salt Lake City show, there was a cellcast/screencast. I was so excited to be watching a show live, and the quality was actually pretty darn great considering! David sounded absolutely amazing, but when he got very choked up talking about his family at one point, I realized that something must be up, since he sounded like he was saying goodbye. Sure enough, David said that he had an important announcement to make later in the show. Sitting at the edge of my seat with bated breath, I listened as he announced that he has decided to go on a full-time mission. I immediately started clapping and getting all excited for him...before I realized what that meant for the fans.

*back to the present*

But David has given us so much! I couldn't have asked for more and could never thank me enough. "Good things come to those who wait" right? I can wait 2 more years to tell David how much of an inspiration he is to me and to attend a show of his. Those of my friends unaware of my experiences are surprised that I have never seen him perform live, and think that I'm probably satisfied living off the YouTube performances. That kind of stings. I mean, come on, seeing your favorite singer in concert is not always easy! I know I'm just rambling now and have stopped making sense so I'll stop now. Thanks for reading!

Happy 4th Birthday to David Archuleta's debut album!

Wow! Can't believe it's been 4 years since the release of David Archuleta's self-titled debut album! How does it feel to have a 4-year-old child, David? ;)
It doesn't feel that long ago to me, to be honest. Seems just like last week (yesterday's too recent)...

I remember on the morning of 11/11/2008, my mom and I went to Target with a family friend. I immediately darted toward the CD section and found a row of David's face on the shelf and grabbed a copy...not before I've checked for scratches and cracks on the case like I had OCD or something though. The family friend asked about the CD and David and my mom explained. He then said that he should probably get a copy for his daughters too, but you know what my mom said? She said that we can just burn a copy for them! I was so mad but couldn't show it while he was there! Later, I told my mom that I wanted his album to do well and sell more, so she should have let him buy it haha! However, that's not yet the end of my David adventures for that day.
After I got home, I immediately went on YouTube trying to listen to all the iTunes and Walmart bonus tracks. I was getting increasingly anxious as I couldn't find a couple of the songs, which was so dumb of me since the album just came out. Anyways, after that, I put the album into the CD slot of our super old stereo system, and it kept spitting out the CD! I had to keep pressing the close button every time, but the 50 times it spat out the CD sure gave me enough time to read David's 3,000-word liner notes! The player eventually accepted the CD, thank goodness! I remember thinking "Barriers" was weird, but it has grown to be one of my favorites. I really wished I could have bought the iTunes copy with bonus tracks, but I was just a poor high school sophomore LOL! It sure was an eventful day and I was so glad that I didn't have school because of Veteran's Day.

My favorite track on the album: A Little Too Not Over You
My favorite bonus tracks: Waiting For Yesterday, Works For Me, Somebody Out There

The album (released under 19 Entertainment/Jive Records) has since been certified gold by RIAA (as of January 2009) and the lead single, "Crush," has since sold over 2 million copies (yay double-platinum!).

p.s. when I went back to Taiwan the next summer, I made sure to look for it! I liked their cover better because he was smiling, but taking off the outer case, the actual CD still has the same cover lol. My brother asked if I was going to buy it, but I said no because that was the only copy and I wanted someone to have a chance to discover his music too :)

David Archuleta's "Forevermore"... Expanded Edition!

On October 19th, David's manager, Kari, tweeted us through his account that something special is coming soon in the form of "Forevermore- Expanded Edition"! It's an expanded edition of the March 2012 Philippines release. At first I thought the photo attached would be a screencap of the upcoming "Rainbow- remix" music video, since we've been anticipating that for a while. Well, I guess I was half right, since this special release does include it. Here's the photo she actually tweeted:
Isn't the album cover lovely? I think so! This time, soon does mean soon! Kari tweeted that the album will be released after 10/31 but before 11/21 (it's already being manufactured!). Oh my goodness, David and Kari are too good to us fans! And here's the album's contents that she tweeted on the 25th:
Looks like the only new things are the music videos, the "Rainbow" remix, and some extra minus-ones (the Rainbow minus-one seems to be missing, guess they didn't want to overwhelm us with quadruple rainbows haha!). But guess what? I'll be getting it anyway!

If you don't live in the Philippines and are interested in getting a copy too, here are places you can order from online (Available since 11/14/2012):

6 Months...A Milestone for Both David Archuleta & His Fanbase

Today marks 6 months to the day David left on his LDS mission. He has spent the last few months serving his religion in Chile, gaining unforgettable, once in a lifetime experiences along the way while also developing his Spanish skills. David, as of today, is 25% done with his service, and who knows how many more people this amazing man has already inspired and will continue to inspire through this journey!

However, this milestone is not David's alone, but all the patiently awaiting fans', his Archies, ArchAngels, Go-Getters, whichever each fan prefers. Although we understand how important this was for him to do, we already can't wait for his return! Many are already planning for his comeback concert (me included!). I know I probably speak for many as I say this, but I miss him everyday. When everyday occurrences remind me of him, I feel simultaneously happy and slightly sad. Some fans probably think it's going against David's wishes to look at pictures of him on his mission because he doesn't want attention on him. But for me, I feel like I need to look at them, just so that they can reassure me that he is happy and doing well. I don't purposefully go looking for blog posts and pictures from his fellow missionaries, but I do look at and read the ones that have surfaced over twitter and been made more public. I think he mostly just doesn't want fans to be all over him while he is there and drawing attention away from the goal of his mission; I don't think he wants to completely cut us off. It seems obvious that the pictures that have surfaced were taken with his knowledge, and therefore, I do not feel guilty looking at them.

This waiting has felt simultaneously long and fleeting. Emotionally, it's felt like years, but time wise, it's already been 6 months when it feels like he just left! Sorry if I'm not really making any sense haha, just rambling here. It's funny and strange how someone I've never even met could be such a huge part of, and have such a huge impact on, my life. Let us and enjoy and celebrate this milestone by listening to BEGIN.!

p.s. today is kind of a special day for me also because exactly 1 year ago today was when I started college!

David Archuleta Explains the Title "BEGIN."

Sorry this is a day late, I was busy watching a Taiwanese drama yesterday and didn't even turn on my personal computer LOL! But I did watch this video right when I saw it yesterday morning. Anyways...

In this new video from David's official channel (theofficialarchuleta) recorded, I think, the day before his departure, David explains the significance of the album title "BEGIN." in his own words. Fun tidbit, this video was uploaded exactly one month after the album's release, which I doubt is coincidental. The meaning is basically what I and many others guessed, that this album represents the beginning of a new chapter in his life, a new journey, and the desire to take us with him and let us understand. I am not amazing at explaining either, so I'll let the video do the talking. It's so amazing to hear David's voice again, explaining his choice in his words. Also great to see his dogs haha! I miss him so much!

p.s. I'm still curious about the capitalization and the period.

Supporting David Archuleta's New Album BEGIN.

Hey everyone! BEGIN. is coming out in 5 days! So exciting! I was going to put this with the last post, seeing as that one was all information on BEGIN., but I'm sure it would make that post way too big and hard to navigate. So I guess, branching off of that...

First:
Just wanted to remind you all to support David by legally obtaining BEGIN.! I know it might not be possible for everyone to afford one, since I myself could just manage to pre-order 1 copy! However, this does not make illegal downloading the answer. This is a very wonderful fanbase (more like a huge family!), and there are many generous fans out there who have extra copies or can afford to buy more and are delighted to help you out! So ask around on Twitter, Facebook, fan sites, etc. Here's a list of fan sites, just to name a few:

Fans of David*
FanScene*
The Voice
David Beyond Borders
SnowAngelz (Canada)
Archuleta Philippines
And don't worry if you don't live in the same country as your donor! Many fans are willing to gift anyway! They can also gift through iTunes if your iTunes accounts are from the same country. So depending on where your donor is from, getting an account from that country if you can is probably a good idea. If you want to be a donor, even if it's just 1 copy, e-mail Fans of David at fodfrontpage@gmail.com or FanScene at janeySA79@gmail.com.

*known gifting program available

Second:
In addition to getting a legal copy of the album, there are additional ways you can help! As you know, Broken is already available on the U.S. iTunes store and people have already posted it on YouTube. Though some posts might say "do not download," that would not stop anyone determined enough. So please leave a comment and message these users by politely asking them to remove their video or replace it with an incomplete version. If people want the song, they have to go buy it! The same goes for all the other songs when the album comes out, since there will surely be videos of those as well!
UPDATE:
Some even have posted download links for the entire album on their YouTube videos, and those need to be removed! Please ask them to do so politely and explain why. They need to understand!

Third:
PROMOTION! This is an essential part of sales. I know David doesn't really care too much, but he really deserves all the success and more. Remember when The Other Side of Down came out and half the fans didn't even know about it until a year later? Let's make sure that doesn't happen again! Deseret Book and Kari have already done an amazing job with the promotion, but we can do our part too. Post about the album on social networking sites, work it into a conversation with someone (I did!), and if you have a twitter account...twibbon! It adds a little logo to your avatar to show off your support. Click here to add one created by AnnieDAFG!

That's all for now and thank you all for reading! Can't wait for to hear the full album after August 7!! This post will be updated regularly.

David Archuleta: 1 year since Stadium of Fire 2011

It's been exactly 1 year since David Archuleta performed what, in my opinion, is the best national anthem he's ever sung yet (and the best I've ever heard). I remember wishing I could have been in Provo, Utah to watch his whole performance. The national anthem performance was a surprise, though most of us fans already guessed that David will be the one performing it. They started by showing a clip of a 12-year-old David singing the first 2 lines of the Star-Spangled Banner at the 2003 Stadium of Fire on the screen, then David takes over for his younger self, following the key change presented by the piano. The epicness of that performance can be witnessed above (thanks to 8throwcenter on YouTube).
If it's not already clear, I have not gotten over this performance yet. There's something about how he put so much respect and admiration into each syllable, and the way he spontaneously follows the music with slight changes in melody and dynamics, never too much to render the song unrecognizable. David is one of the best anthem singers (and singer in general) that I've ever heard and has delivered many great performances of this song. However, this one leaves all the other performances behind. Every time I come across this video, I cannot help but watch it multiple times, savoring every note. I can't wait to hear him perform live for the first time sometime in the future! See you in 2014 David, we miss you!! His other performances from that event can be found on 8throwcenter's channel on YouTube as well (Can't forget "Stomping the Roses" with the dancers ROFL, or the spectacular patriotic medley). :)

4 years of being an "Archie"!

Oh my heck! I can't believe it's exactly 4 years ago today that I saw the amazing David Archuleta audition for American Idol on my TV! I was a Freshman in high school, now I'm one in college! He was 16 (since the audition happened the summer before it aired) and is now 21! I've told the story many times about how at first I doubted him and the rest is history, haha, so I won't do it again. That moment was very memorable though, for sure! But man, time flies! He's already had 5 albums (when you include the Asian Tour Edition of 2010's The Other Side of Down and 2011's Christmas special release, Glad Christmas Tidings, with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir), a best-selling memoir, and now Nandito Ako, a TV miniseries in the works in the Philippines, airing February 20th on TV5! He also left his record company last February in order to stay true to himself in this business and to go his own way; he managed to organize a Christmas tour all by himself, and it ran from December 1-21st 2011! It all started with David's decision to audition for the singing competition and everyone's recognition of his musical genius. He will be leaving on a 2-year mission for the LDS church in just a few weeks, but I am proud to say that I'm still a huge fan and will still be here when he returns. Can't wait to watch the show (and hear the song!) Nandito Ako (I am here)!

Happy 21st Birthday David Archuleta!!

Happy 21st Birthday to the amazingly talented David Archuleta! This singer-songwriter was the runner-up on American Idol Season 7 and is extremely down-to-earth. David is loved around the world; yesterday morning, the fans in Asia managed to trend #Happy21stDavidArchie worldwide on twitter, and today, both that, and "Happy Birthday David Archuleta" trended in the US, Indonesia Philippines, and other countries! He is about to embark on a full-time Mormon mission, so this will be the last birthday us fans get to communicate with him for the next 2 years. I am so grateful to have him as a part of my life. What an inspiration! I will sure miss him! Party hard, but take it easy on the water and juice, David! If you don't know who he is, you must be online since you're reading this, so...Google and Wikipedia!

David Archuleta will serve a full-time mission. How about that?

When I first heard about this, it was while watching a Ustream of his Salt Lake City, UT concert on the night of December 19th. He said he had a special announcement to make while he's home and this was it. Some time during the next few months, David will leave to serve a full-time mission for the LDS church. My first reaction is "OMG! Great for him!" but almost immediately, a feeling of sadness washed over me. No music, no updates, no news, for... 2 years? The feeling was quite selfish, I admit, and I'm glad it didn't last too long. Just 1 and a half days, lol!
Many fans were saying that they don't know what to do with their lives anymore and that they are crying their eyes out and losing sleep, but I didn't actually cry until I told my mom about it the next morning, and that's only because I re-kindled that feeling by watching the announcement video he uploaded. I know he's wanted to do this and has been thinking about it, but I never thought about what would happen when he actually does it. What do I do with this extra free time? Study so that I could get into my major? Good idea, I thought. Why not make it productive? But that sadness came over me again when the thought that I have not yet attended one of his concerts slipped into my mind. It makes me feel like I missed a huge opportunity! There were 2 shows (summer of '08 and '09) I could have made, but my family had already made plans to go back to Taiwan over the summer for both of those shows! I was very disappointed, so you could only imagine my worsened disappointment when I find out he's not coming with a 4hr drive any direction of Seattle, Washington. Now to think I have to wait at the very least 2 more years is almost unfathomable, but I've already waited 4. What's a couple more years?
Then I realized, wouldn't he miss his family and friends more than we miss him? Wouldn't his family and friends miss him more as well? And after everything he's done for us fans, he's finally doing something that's only for himself. I would say we Archies are a spoiled group of fans, haha, and I love all you amazing people! Forget the media that suddenly showed interest in him after he made his announcement and the false assumptions they made of his reasons for doing this. The mission is what he needs to do and I will continue to support him and wait for him. I wish I understood more how much this means to him since I am not Mormon, but I respect his choices and his reasons. So good luck David and I can't wait until you come back! I know he hasn't left yet, but heck I already miss him!

Congratulations, David Archuleta!

On January 22, 2008, I tuned in to the American Idol Season 7 auditions with my family expecting laughs, since due to the writers' strike that year, I had nothing else better to watch. Little did I know that a 16-year-old boy named David Archuleta, who suffered from vocal paralysis at age 13, could change my life... forever. Cheesy I know, but what can I say? I had no expectations of him at all; he looked too young to audition and his talking voice was slightly wheezy due to his diagnosis. But he opened his mouth and sang with such technique, emotion, and soul- I was just overwhelmed! He took a song I didn't like much and turned it- by applying his own twist- into one I could not stop listening to.
Now, three years later to the day, with his voice richer and stronger than ever before, he has released 3 albums (David Archuleta- 11/11/08, Christmas From the Heart- 10/13/09, The Other Side of Down 10/05/10), a memoir (Chords of Strength- 06/01/10), and brought increased awareness to various charities- all before his 20th birthday on December 28, 2010.

Congratulations David, and thanks for taking us fans on this amazing ride with you. You are a great inspiration to many, me included. You have a heart of gold and wisdom beyond your years. Can't wait to see what else you'll achieve in the future. Rock on. Te amamos mucho.

David Archuleta goes “The Other Side of Down” with new album

This was originally posted on my usual blog, hpfanrinnie.wordpress.com. Just thought I should share :)

As many of you know, I am a huge fan of David Archuleta. He and his music have changed some of my perspectives on music as well as life and I thought: why not write a song-by-song review of his newest album, “The Other Side of Down”, which came out on October 5, 2010? This sophomore album (if the 2009 “Christmas From the Heart” is excluded) was a huge step up (pun intended :P ) from his debut effort, for he was more involved and almost every song shows off his fun and goofy personality. Some have called this album “a musical anti-depressant” and I can’t help but agree. The optimism in this album is infectious to everyone who listens to it. Even my brother couldn’t help but sing along!
1. “The Other Side of Down” (David Archuleta, Joy Williams, Blair Daly, Jeremy Bose) This song is about staying positive no matter what and not letting the ups and downs of life get to you, but to aim to get to “the other side of down”. It is an up-tempo song that will have you singing “doooown!” and put you in a great mood in no time. David’s voice glides pleasantly and effortlessly through the song, and the electric guitar ending has a really cool vibe and the song is overall well-produced.
2. “Something ‘Bout Love” (David Archuleta, Sam Hollander, Dave Katz, Chris DeStefano)This was the first single off of this album (it came out 7/20 and for some reason, his label’s trying to forget it, calling Elevator the first single), which talks not only about romantic love but love in general, whether it’s love between friends, families, or the inherent love that people have that motivates them to help others. David shows off his range in this song song, and although I was slightly unhappy with the auto-tune in the bridge at first listen, I realized it was very slight, purely for effect, and only lasts about 1 second each line. It is an electronic, power-pop production with meaning, the latter of which the radio lacks these days.
3. “Elevator” (David Archuleta, Mike Krompass, Shelly Peiken) One of my personal favorites, “Elevator” might sound like a nursery rhyme at first listen, but then you realize how original the song is. It is based on a dream David had, and the song itself is about how life can be confusing and unpredictable at times, but it is the emotions and surprises in life that “keep you feeling so alive”. It is very fun and the part in the second verse where he harmonizes with himself is just awesome. The song starts out with a pleasant acoustic guitar and David’s voice humming, guiding you into the song. It is a very well-written and well-produced song. This is the second single off of the album.
4. “Stomping the Roses” (David Archuleta, Bryce Avary) One of the best songs on the album, “Stomping the Roses” is about being frustrated with someone so immature, irritable, and selfish that he can’t stand having them in his life or having himself be in their world anymore. Why would anyone stomp roses, something so beautiful, something that means a lot to someone else.  It is one of the only “angry” (in David’s words) songs on the album, but it is very well-written and shows off David’s voice. I think it’s kind of sassy. The song isn’t overproduced and the layering of drum machines and guitar is just right. This song is very creative and is currently my cellphone ringtone ^_^
5. “Who I Am” (David Archuleta, Mike Krompass, Shelly Peiken) My brother’s favorite song off the album (he’s not an Archie, btw), this song is pretty self-explanatory: it’s who David is. He sings about keeping a clear head and just being himself as he takes a break from the crazy world he’s in to try to figure out who he is.  I love how he sings his own background vocals, which is extremely well-done. My favorite lyric? “I don’t care if Jeff Fenster (his A&R rep) is calling” :-) Priceless.
6. “Falling Stars” (Emanuel Kiriakou, Claude Kelly, Jess Cates) This song is irrelevant to the central theme of the album, but a good song nevertheless. It is about not getting over someone who, according to implications from the lyrics, is out of his league. Although parts of the lyrics are abstract and don’t make a whole lot of sense (“crashing cars”? is it because they burn like “falling stars”?!), its meaning is clear. The highlight of this song is David’s voice, the way it glides back and forth from falsetto to modal voice, and his refrain from using vibrato at Eman’s suggestion gives the vaguely familiar melody a haunting beauty.
7. “Parachutes and Airplanes” (David Archuleta, Lindy Robbins, Matt Squire) Personally, I prefer this song live (he sang it in June in Rexburg, ID, when he didn’t know whether it’d make the album or not), but that doesn’t mean the song isn’t just great. In it, David sings about an absolutely blissful moment where an important person in his life guides him past all the negativity and makes this moment worthwhile. The melody is lovely and creative in and of itself; the orchestral arrangement in the background, which I hadn’t noticed until many more listens, gives it a sophistication that generic radio pop songs don’t have. My favorite lyric is “The world’s a thousand shades of blue/ like we’re here in a kaleidoscope” because blue is my favorite color. My brother, after hearing this lyric as I played this song during dinner last night, actually asked me if I’d like the world to be in “A thousand shades of blue”. I said no, that’d be boring, lol! It is a “feel good” (again, in David’s words) song that gets you in a great mood. I just wished that the background vocals at the end of the bridge behind “ground ground ground ground” were louder.
8. “Look Around” (David Archuleta, Victoria Horn, Matt Squire) A song with a techno feel, “Look Around” is about appreciating all the things you already have in life instead of fantasizing about what you should have, because that causes you to lose sight of the great things that you do have. Believe it or not, I actually love the auto-tune used in his background vocals where he goes “oo woah woah”. It really fit well despite David’s wanting to take it off and needing persuasion from the producers that it is good for this song. I hate auto-tune too, but it just works in this song. Plus, it’s not on the main vocal. This song is very catchy and is also very meaningful.
9. “Good Place” (David Archuleta, Mitch Allan, Shelly Peiken) With the beats in the verses intentionally made to sound like his first single, “Crush”, this song is about currently being in a good place in his life and career and appreciating it even though David’s confused about how he got here and whether he deserves it.  He is just living in the moment and making the best of it, trying not to take it for granted. It is a mid-tempo song with a seemingly familiar melody, but I can’t quite place it.
10. “Complain” (David Hodges, Emanuel Kiriakou, Claude Kelly) Although David did not have a hand in writing this song, it fits the theme of the album well and has a great message. Just listening to the way David sings this song, you can tell he truly believes it. This song is also about appreciating what you have and to realize that every time you find something to complain about, you should stop and think about how fortunate you are. It has a country and soulful vibe to it, and is pretty much guitar-driven.
11. “Things Are Gonna Get Better” (David Archuleta, Danielle Brisebois, Nick Lashly, A. Ander) This is a motivational song about moving on with your life no matter what happens because things will get better. I really like the overall production of this song (the snapping and clapping!), but I think the electronic effect in the background vocals after the choir comes in towards the end is superfluous and it doesn’t fit well. David’s vocals are incredible in this song as well. The song has a gospel feel to it, which emphasizes its message, though the lyrics could be better written albeit rather inspirational and relatable. The melody is pleasant.
12. “My Kind of Perfect” (David Archuleta, Joy Williams, Cindy Brouwer, Jeremy Bose)This song is about what kind of girl David is looking for. She doesn’t have to perfect, but she has to be his kind of perfect, and his kind of perfect is not appearance per se, but what’s inside, in her heart. This song is a piano driven ballad, very pleasant and touching, with beautifully written lyrics and melody. Actually, the only two instruments in this song are the piano and David’s flawless voice. His fast vibrato at the end of the slightly longer notes is just lovely. Again one of my favorites.
I have concluded that there is no bad song on this album, but some definitely stand out more than others. I really love how he sings his own background vocals in almost every song, since other people probably can’t sing the parts as well anyway.I would highly recommend this album to everyone, whether they like pop music or not because it is so refreshing and original compared to what’s popular nowadays, which are songs about partying, drinking, relationships etc. I seriously do not get why his label seems reluctant to do further promotion and target more audiences. Anyways, well done Mr. Archuleta, and keep up the excellent work! :D
